Schaft: Maki Fujii & Hisashi Imai w/ Raymond Watts
Schaft 1st appeared on the Japanese Scene in 1991 on the VA Compilation "Dance 2 Noise 001". The idea of "Schaft" was put together by Maki Fujii (Soft Ballet) & Hisashi Imai (Buck-Tick). With this small, 1st release (1 track on the compilation), Schaft (Maki & Hisashi) ventured breifly on the live venue circuit, performing their "noise" music. In August of 1993, the duo of Maki & Hisashi were reunited during the japaese "LSB" tour which consisted of Luna Sea, Soft Ballet, Buck-Tick, and occasionally Schaft. After the tour, it was decided that a Schaft album would be made. Maki & Hisashi invited Raymond Watts (Pig) to join the group and supply Vocals, Programming, and other bits of noise. From that magic combo, Schaft produced their Debut LP "Switchblade" & EP Companion "Switch Remix" as well as a live VHS entitled "Switchblade Visual Mix". Schaft went on a short tour of Japan, and then evaporated, even though the group was a success. Long after, Schaft (as Maki Fujii) reared it's head again, this time to contibute it's abstractness in the form of 1 track for the Zilch LP & VHS "bastardEYES". Schaft has since never been heard of again, although some think that "SCHWEIN" is the sequal to the original Schaft.
