Online CD Review:

Schaft is a Japanese "Industrial" band featuring the help of Raymond Watts (Pig). Raymond contributes his Programming Talents & Guitar as well as Vocals on Half of the tracks on "Switchblade". The tracks sound similar to Raymond's solo work (Agressive depravity with some "Big Band" samples here & there) with a little more chaotic edge to it. Rayomd also has a tendency to re-use his lyrics from his solo works on "Switchblade". However, he surrounds them with different sounds & atmospheres so that they come across in a completely different light. While the songs involving Raymond are the best on the album, the 2 actual members of Schaft (Maki Fujii & Imai Hisashi) show they are very adept at composing a wide variety of styles (using different vocalists on each track) -- From the New-Wavish "Broken English" to the Atmospheric Sound Piece "Olive" to the Dead Can Dance like "Visual Cortex". Every track on this album is a "remix" by such artists as Autechre, Meat Beat Manifesto & Coil. With all of these tracks being remixes, It makes one wonder what the "Original" versions sounded like.
